Helen Beckley: It's a Love/Hate Relationship
My running motivation is:
"My motivation has always really been to get fit. I quite fancied having a runner’s body – slim and toned, but apparently that means giving up chocolate and I’m not sure I’m ready for that just yet!! However, it has got a little more toned and I am slowly getting faster. I never thought I could get below 1hour for 10k (yes, I know for a lot of you that’s easy) but I have finally done it, yipeee!! So now my next target is to get below 55mins".
I have been training for so long:
"I have always been a swimmer, so I’m fairly new to this running lark... and wow its tough! I have been training properly (on and off) for just over a year. I don’t just do running, as I have entered a triathlon so I try and mix it up with other activities. I have a love/hate relationship with running. I hate that it never seems to get easier, however, I love the challenge it gives me, and once I finish running I feel great; no other activity gives me this sense of achievement. Plus I have met some great people along the way, which makes it a lot more fun".
My running and fitness goal is:
"Last year I entered a 10k run and a triathlon after having my first baby, with the aim of losing my ‘mummy tummy’ and getting super fit. However, having a new baby, the getting fit part didn’t quite happen as planned, I completed both.... but it hurt!! This year I have trained more, and my goal is to reduce my 10k time and complete the tri in less pain than last year!"
My best race and time was:
"My last 10k was 58mins so I was super happy with that.....roll on the next one!"
My favourite thing about Abu Dhabi Striders is...
"Due to my love/hate relationship with running, finding the motivation to go on my own just does not happen. I love going with the Striders as no matter your level they can accommodate you without making you feel that you’re going to be left behind or slow everyone else down. I have met some lovely people at the club and they are always there to give me tips or hints, or just generally make sure I don’t give up! It’s always nice to hear about all the big events the others do.....perhaps one day I’ll be fit enough to join them (gulp)".
